We spent seven days and seven nights driving, camping and hiking around the beach on the Sea of Japan. We passed through multiple prefectures, and camped in four separate prefectures, spending the most time in Kyoto (not the city).

Great pictures on the Japan Rider page. Looks like you had good weather and great scenery. But what did you do with all your time? Just hiking? Any biking?
BTW - the picture of the bug you took is a weevil. I don't know what kind but it is definitely a weevil of some kind. They are pretty distinctive little creatures.
