Happy Canada Day

I've been in Japan so long that it's very easy to forget Canadian holidays, like Labour day or, even, Easter. For some reason, though, I remember when it's Canada Day (July 1st). We don't celebrate it over here, of course, but I enjoy knowing that on the other side of the globe, my friends and family are relaxing, hopefully with a six-pack of cold Canadian beer, and anticipating the evening festivities!

The evening festivities will be curtailed a bit here in Toronto. City workers have been on strike for 10 days so there is no garbage pickup and organized events in public parks are not happening. There will still be a few fireworks shows but not nearly as many as last year.

Happy Canada Day!
When we were in Detroit we celebrated your day and our own Independence Day with fireworks set off in the middle of the Detroit River - the international boundary.

Here we are already enjoying festivities and fireworks today and will continue tomorrow.
